Self-Directed Course to Encourage Student Independence
Our Level 7 Language Arts Course has a balance of written and online work for the student, with written lessons including warm-ups, grammar and usage exercises, sentence diagramming, reading comprehension passages, editing practice, vocabulary reviews, and more. The online portion of the course contains videos that teach new grammar concepts, Vocabulary & Reading Skills passages, Geography & Grammar Cards, a word processor and writing checklists, and art videos with projects in acrylic painting.
Each of the six units cover a geographical region and have a theme such as personal growth or the power of empathy. The correlated books provide not just engaging literature, but a springboard for discussing literary concepts, reading comprehension questions, vocabulary practice, Greek & Latin Roots exercises, and book discussions that teach students how to think and talk about literature. Each lesson also directs students to complete a lesson in our online Simply Spelling app.
Varied, Scaffolded Writing Exercises That Develop Confident Writers
Level 7 students practice writing at the sentence, paragraph, and essay level with exercises focusing on note-taking, outlining, essay writing, summaries, creative writing, and poetry. Lessons on topic sentences, improving style, developing a thesis statement, writing a conclusion, creating dialogue, and the components of a short story are woven throughout the course. Students type their works-in-progress directly into the word processor in the online app. Scaffolded lessons walk students step-by-step through concepts and increase independence in writing.
