Domaine du Coquerel VS is the expression that introduced countless drinkers to Calvados — and the bottle that Master of Malt called a superbly fruity brandy and a brilliant introduction to the category. Built on the same foundation that has defined Coquerel since René Gilbert founded the estate in 1937 near Mont Saint-Michel, the VS is a blend of Calvados aged a minimum of two years in French oak, following the same meticulous production process that begins with approximately 40 apple and pear varieties naturally fermented for at least 30 days before distillation in traditional copper stills. Initial resting in large oak foudres allows the spirit to settle before transfer to smaller barrels for aging — building the vivid apple character that makes Coquerel such an approachable entry point into the category. The nose opens with rich honey and vanilla tones alongside mellow apple blossom and fresh orchard fruit, while the palate delivers sharp green apples, sweet honeyed fruit, and subtle vanilla and spice notes — finishing with hints of ground coffee, clove, and a mellow apple-blossom and oak fade. Wine Enthusiast recommended it specifically for cocktail mixing — and the Coquerel VS is indeed one of the finest cocktail Calvados expressions available at any price. Brilliant in a long drink with tonic or soda water, equally at home in a classic Sidecar or Jack Rose. Buy Domaine du Coquerel VS Calvados online with fast shipping right to your door.
