Vodka historian Boris Rodionov rediscovered the original recipes in 18th-century documents at the Russian National Museum — and because Russian law still forbids the method, he built Rodionov & Sons in a forest in Poland, reconstructing copper pot stills from period drawings that look more like Cognac alembics than anything in a modern vodka plant. No. 1 is a blend of rye and wheat, malted and fermented traditionally, triple distilled in those copper pots to a deliberately low proof so the grain character survives, then clarified with fresh egg whites — an old winemaking technique that softens astringency — and filtered through birch charcoal, bottled at 38.5% ABV.
