The Whistler Double Oak Irish Whiskey comes from Boann Distillery in County Meath, the family-run distillery of the Cooneys in the Boyne Valley. It is a blend of Irish grain and malt whiskeys aged in two kinds of oak: first ex-bourbon barrels, then virgin oak barrels, and bottled at 80 proof. The bourbon wood lays down vanilla and caramel; the virgin oak adds richer toasted-wood flavors and spice. The result balances the sweet, mellow bourbon-cask character against the robust spice of fresh oak, with a smooth finish. It is an easy neat pour and mixes well in a whiskey ginger, an Irish coffee or an Old Fashioned. This 750ml bottle is a well-priced everyday Irish whiskey with more oak character than most blends at this price.
